Alhaji Remi Lukman, The father of the young man, Kolade Johnson, who was killed by trigger-happy SARS officers at a football viewing center in Lagos last Sunday March 31st, has reacted to the ugly incident. In an interview with Punch, the bereaved father of the deceased, Alhaji Remi Lukman, narrated how an officer who declared he must kill someone when his team stormed the viewing center that day, eventually killed his son.

”My son was murdered here on Sunday March 31st at about 4.30pm by the Anti-cultism team of police officers. I don’t want anybody framing things up. What I really needed was two things. One was immediate, the other procedural. The immediate one is police report which will enable the mortuary to collect the corpse. The second one which is procedural is justice over the death of my son.

I want those responsible to be fished out and be brought to book. All these boys being killed are all youths, they all have potentials. These are the tomorrow of Nigeria. If you just decided willfully after making a statement that you are going to kill somebody here today and you actually killed somebody. That was the statement that came out from the mouth of the officer that fired the shot. Thereafter he shot in the air and two stray bullets directed at the crowd, then we need a more organized police force.

We need a police force that will put the interest of the citizens at heart. We need a police force that will dutifully handle their job. We need a police force that will add to the progress of youths, not the one that will be killing them like the one that happened on Sunday. I want the men to be brought to book I want them to be brought to justice. I want them to be giving the justice that is due” he said Many celebrities including Banky W, Waje, Adesua Etomi-Wellington and others have condemned the killing of Kolade. The presidency last night reacted to the killing, pledging to ensure justice is done.

Sharing a photo of the young father who was a victim of extrajudicial killing, Adesua wrote:

I am SO SICK of the abuse of power by SARS. I am SO SICK of a government that turns deaf ears to the cries of it’s people. HOW MANY MORE PEOPLE HAVE TO DIE before something is done about this nonsense? Every other day, we hear stories of how citizens are beaten, killed, robbed, kidnapped by SARS. If a tree is producing rotten fruit, CUT IT DOWN. This is Kolade. His only crime was watching football. That was all he was doing when a stray bullet hit him yesterday. A bullet fired by a SARS official. They fled the scene btw. So who do we hold responsible? He has a son who now has to grow up without a father, all because some idiot was trigger happy. #EndSars #justiceforkola #thishastostop

Dear Sirs, Kolade Johnson, an innocent, young citizen of Nigeria is dead. He was the only son of a widow, a husband and father. His only crime was being in the right place at the wrong time… watching a football match when SARS operatives who allegedly came to arrest someone, started shooting sporadically. Kolade is not the first innocent victim of reckless behaviour by SARS operatives, and he will almost certainly not be the last. It is sickening, frustrating, and unfair. We are tired of hearing about victims of police brutality, but never hearing about the criminal, reckless police officers being brought to justice. We are tired of screaming and tweeting #ENDSARSwhile our innocent young people are being extorted, bullied, maimed and killed by the very same officers who are meant to protect them. And we are tired of our leaders remaining silent, incident after incident. We’re going to track down Kolade’s family, pray with them and raise money to assist them through this terrible tragedy. We hope that our leaders will use this opportunity to ACTUALLY show that they care about our lives and well being, by tracking down the reckless officers responsible for this murder and bringing them to justice for their vicious crime.

We will not let this go. Kolade was innocent and did not deserve to die. Kolade could have been anyone of us. Please show us that you care about us. Please.

Burna Boy says This may be too much for some of you to understand. But Until we -re really Ready to Fight SARS and the Powers that be, And I’m not talking about any protest or aimless marching, I mean REALLY FIGHT. Nobody should include ME in any #EndSARS hashtag because your wasting my time and yours. Until then let us pray that our turn to di. at the hands of SARS never comes. We are all PUSSYs RIP to all those who have died unjustly at then. hands of SARS

What’s the difference between these SARS guys and armed robbers / assasins ? PATORANKING wrote; Federal SARS killed an innocent man yesterday,He wasn’t involved in anything unlawful…He was on his own watching a football game and the @PoliceNG is yet to release a statement about it…and una say Nigeria go good. Wow Basketmouth; ‏ Robbers and terrorists take our properties, lives & our freedom. The Govt take our taxes to pay the police/SARS to protect us from Robbers & terrorists. Now,the Police & SARS are the ones taking lives and our freedom. Talk about being between the devil and the deep blue sea! So…does this mean that we are paying the Police, SARS etc to be killing us? Because the last time I checked, they’re all paid from our taxes.
