Two people have been killed while eleven others leftinjured in a shooting at a Christmas market in Strasbourg, eastern France.
Seven of those injured are said to be in a seriouscondition and it is not yet clear if there was any link to a terrorist group.
Urging residents to stay indoors, the FrenchInterior Ministry confirmed a ‘serious public security incident’ in the city.
The shooting is believed to have taken place near aChristmas market in Place Kleber, one of Strasbourg’s central squares.
According to police, the gunman – who police haveidentified – is still at large but is being actively searched for after beinginjured in an exchange with a soldier.
The motive for the attack has not yet beenconfirmed, but the gunman is known to security services as a possible terroristthreat.
Strasbourg deputy mayor Alain Fontanel tweeted:
